Liturgical Ministries

Music Ministry

The music ministry of our church seeks to serve God, our community, and our neighbors through music. We are committed to expanding our music ministry to include a variety of musical styles and traditions, including but not limited to classical (vocal and instrumental), gospel, traditional hymns, and contemporary Christian praise music. The music ministry seeks to offer music in our church life that reflects the many cultures and traditions of our congregation and its community.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Communion

When needed at any Mass to help the ordinary ministers of Holy Communion – the Priest, Deacons and Seminarians – to distribute the Precious Body or Precious Blood of Jesus.  When needed, Extraordinary Ministers take Holy Communion to the sick and home bound.

The role of a lector is to proclaim the Word to the people of God. When one answers the call to be a minister of the word, one enters a deeper relationship with the word of God as revealed in sacred scriptures.  The lector takes upon themselves the duty and privilege of bringing the printed word to life.

Altar Care

The altar is the focal point of the church, the table on which the Eucharistic Sacrifice is offered. We want our church and altar area to show our care and concern for this Precious Sacrament.  This CCW ministry includes laundering and ironing of church altar linens on a weekly basis.

Coordinators:   Altar Care: Tatjana Barnes – 865-740-3664 & Linen Care: Karen Vacaliuc – 865-386-5784

Prayers of the Faithful

Prepare the weekly Prayer of the Faithful recited at the Sunday/Vigil Masses, at the first Friday and Wednesday evening Masses, and at the Communion Services.  Prepare the Prayer of the Faithful in English and Spanish per liturgical norms.

To request the inclusion of the names of loved one(s), family member(s), or parishioner(s) in the Prayer of the Faithful, please contact one of the Deacons through the Parish Office 865-482-2875.

As part of the Parish Revitalization effort, for one weekend each month, greeters are being asked to make each parishioner feel welcomed to our Church.  This presents us with a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other better and to build the community of our Parish.

Hosting Groups:

  • 1st weekend: Saint Mary School
  • 2nd weekend: Legion of Mary
  • 3rd weekend: Council of Catholic Women
  • 4th weekend: Knights of Columbus
  • 5th weekend: Perpetual Adoration Society

We thank you for undertaking this ministry of service to the community. Too often ushers are considered to be “…those people who take up the collection.” That is the most visible aspect of the duties of the usher, but not the most important. The primary role of usher is to provide assistance to the members of the congregation and thereby facilitate the full and active participation of the laity in the Mass.
